新郎 The Groom

Zack Lin

Architect · Tiong Bahru, Singapore

An architect who grew up between his grandmother's kitchen and a drafting table. He sketches buildings by day and still cannot walk past a dim sum window without ordering the har gow. Family first, always — especially when someone is refilling his tea.

新娘 The Bride

Zoey Chen

Pastry Chef · Little Lantern Bakes, Joo Chiat

A pastry chef who runs a weekend pop-up where she folds dumplings into things they were never supposed to be — peach dumplings, black sesame crêpes, osmanthus tarts. She believes every celebration should end with dessert and no arguments.

How We Met

Every good marriage needs a spark. Ours was the last plate of har gow.

  1. Chinatown Complex

Zack was waiting for his order at a Chinatown Complex dim sum stall when Zoey appeared out of nowhere to claim the last plate of har gow. “Excuse me,” he said, “I was there first.” She looked him dead in the eyes: “You're blocking my shrimp dumplings.” They split the plate and argued pleasantly for another hour.

  2. Our Tiong Bahru Walk-Up

We moved into a walk-up above a neighbourhood kopitiam. He built shelves for her bake-sale stock; she made him a cake shaped like his drafting table, complete with a tiny crane on top.

  3. Under the Marina Bay Lights

New Year's Eve at Marina Barrage, with the city glowing across the water. He proposed at midnight; she said yes before he finished asking.

  4. The Wedding Day

Two families, one long table, and a kitchen that has been on high alert for months.
